Colorless hygroscopic crystals, readily soluble in water (32.4% at 10 ° C, 45.0% at 35 ° C).

Application

It is used for extraction of precious metals (gold, silver) from ore-selective leaching; as cyanating agent in the production of nitriles, isonitriles of dyes (indigo); to increase the surface hardness, wear resistance and fatigue strength of steel products — the so-called cyanidation (saturation of the surface layers of steel products simultaneously with carbon and nitrogen when heated in a melt containing cyanide). In addition, it is used in soldering and liquid cementation of metals, in bronzing and galvanizing, in the silvering of mirrors, in photography, in lithography, in the manufacture of pharmaceutical preparations, in the control of agricultural pests, in flotation processes (in particular, for separating galena from zinc blende (sphalerite) and pyrite from chalcopyrite).
