Boron Nitride

Binary compound of boron and nitrogen. Chemical formula: BN. Crystalline boron nitride is isoelectronic to carbon and, like it, exists in several polymorphic modifications.

Application

Elbor is used as a high-quality abrasive material, in many ways superior to diamond: for example, it does not dissolve in iron when heated, which allows it to be used for high-yield processing of steel. Products with a coating of boron nitride are in demand for roughing and finishing of parts, primarily in such industries as heavy engineering, automotive, mining, construction. It can also be used as a filler that improves thermal conductivity, able to work without lubrication, in electrical insulating materials, in particular in the insulation of electrical machines.
