VNII NP-271 grease

Instrumental lubricant VNII NP-271 (TU 38.101603-76) is an ester thickened with lithium soap of stearic acid and acids of hydrogenated castor oil; contains antioxidant and antiwear additives. Has good anti-wear and extreme pressure properties, low colloidal and high antioxidant stability, good frost resistance.

VNII NP-271 belongs to the group of frost-resistant, having a narrow specialization. Successfully operates in various devices in conditions of reducing the temperature conditions of the environment to -60 ° C. Can work when the temperature rises up to +120 ° C.

The consistency of this lubricant is soft. The product has a beige color with a light purple hue. VNII NP-271 is produced from ester oil with a synthetic composition. A thickening of the base is carried out using soap of stearic acid containing lithium in its composition, as well as castor oil susceptible to hydrogenation. In the manufacturing process, additives are added to the lubricant to promote product resistance to the wear process of friction parts, as well as antioxidant additives. The final composition is tested for compliance with TU 38.101603-76.

The VNII NP-271 includes tricresyl phosphate, which has a toxic effect on the human body. In this regard, during the operation of the lubricant, special attention should be paid to strict observance of safety rules for personnel.
In our country there are no analogues. The product of foreign manufacture — «Isoflex LDS 18 Special A», produced by Klüber Lubrication, can serve as an example of VNII NP-271.

With success, the product is used in rolling bearings operating at a contact stress of about 2 GPa. Lubrication can provide a high speed in comparison with other lubricants used in gyroscopes. VNII NP-271 has low viscosity. All these features of the product make it possible to operate it when creating various kinds of optical instruments. It should be remembered that the optical parts themselves should be isolated from the lubricant.

VNII NP-271 operates for a short period in a pair of friction «titanium-bronze» at a workload of less than 36 MPa. Lubricants were also tested in a steel-brass pair. But the anti-wear properties of the product in this pair were low.

Application area

This product can work successfully under conditions of varying ambient temperatures from -60 ° C to +130 ° C. The immediate purpose of this product is to operate it in various friction units in miniature electric motors and gyroscopes. This lubricant is used to process rolling bearings. At the same time, VNII NP-271 provides them with not significant moments of friction and touching. If the speed of the bearings does not exceed 6 thousand per minute, the Research Institute of NP-271 functions permanently for 20 thousand hours.
